PID Tuning using the Qidi 3D Printer
- Important note 2022-04-07:Seems Qidi has broken the Autotune in 4.2.14.x Firmware (assumption due to observation and customer reports) - so be careful doing the PID autotune at least backup (as always) your current config. See also my thread PID Tuning testing PID tuning with the MAX. Conclusion take stock values do not execute the PID tuning.
- Using a terminal like Octoprint
- Using SD card/USB stick only

PID Tuning using the Qidi 3D Printer
Important note 2022-04-07:
Seems Qidi has broken the Autotune in 4.2.14.x Firmware (assumption due to observation and customer reports) - so be careful doing the PID autotune at least backup (as always) your current config. See also my thread PID Tuning testing PID tuning with the MAX. Conclusion take stock values do not execute the PID tuning.
Using a terminal like Octoprint
just type:
where you replace the S220 with your wanted targettemp. If done and everything works as expected save the config using.
If you use part cooling please use it while PID tuning as well. Same for the heatblock socks. The U at the end tells the printer to immediately use the result.
After each run on you will get an intermediate result like (obviously not if you run it via SD card)
finally
If you can watch the temperatures via Octoprint or similar it should look like:
Using SD card/USB stick only
If you don't have any terminal access you can use a gcode file to execute the needed commands. Just copy the following to your text editor and safe it as .gcode on your usb drive.
M106 S255 ; fan 100% - skip if you print wo fan
M303 E0 S220 C10 U ; S220 Targettemp Nozzle
M8500;
M8512 "QidiPID_220L100.gcode" ; adapt the name as your temp
S220 has to be replaced by your target printing temp. Keep the Part Fan running if you plan to use it later while printing.
The process takes approx 10min. While running you see the nozzle temp going up and down crossing the targetvalue.
Tipp:
You can run this procedure once for different temp and fan settings and reuse the result stored within the file you name using the M8512 commnand e.g "QidiPID_220L100.gcode". For example
can be stored to gcode file and executed without running the full procedure again.
Note: if you change your setup like fan replacement, heatblock.... the full procedure should be redone.
Result should look like - very stable +-2C temperature curve and when temperature changes only a few small up and down.
Increasing max Printing temp
Default is a max of 300C using the Qidi
would change this to max 400C - use this carefully. Don't overdo using 60W + heater cartrige - current should not go skyhigh otherwise you might damage the flat cable or board.
