Hi, while my business trip we (my wife and I) were on a short vacation to Sri Lanka (only 7 days ). Welcome to paradise
Sri Lanka (Ceylon):
Beautiful paradise island in the south of India with the size of maybe bavaria in Germany (so quite small). Even though there are several religions and minority groups on Sri Lanka. We all might rememberthe civil war between the Tamils (LTTE) and Government in the north and east of the island, but this is history since 2009 (Mullaitivu).
Most likely more the several ten thousand of people died.
Economy is now increasing by ~8% a year and you see a lot of shops, banks and hotels opening all around (even in the former war areas). I think it is safe to travel now.
Sri Lanka offers a lot of natural parks to see Leopards, crocodiles, elephants and masses of different birds. The travel season differs depending on the area you stay due to the different monsun rains. So Nov-April are suitable for the highlands, south and West; march-october for east and north. We were staying in October nearby Tangalle and it was raining while night early morning, 30min at early lunch, 30min around 4 and then again around 7-8pm almost everyday. In between some clouds and blue sky - still enough to get a sunburn.
The 7 days way stayed there were definitely not long enough - I would suggest 2-3 weeks with maybe 2 different hotel locations to explore the paradise island. Of course for a pure beach trip 5 days are also fine...
