I tested your newest fanduct - I like the changes but looking at the result there is a small area to improve print or slicerability :)

    [attach = '4398', 'none', 'false'] [/ attach]

    Or is this gap intentionally?

It's a slicer thing, it is very thin there. I'll make it a little thicker for now and upload today.

I'm in the middle of testing version 1.2, it is completely redesigned from scratch.

Iatraliptes I tried Greentec Pro Carbon myself, not sure how they got the heat deflection values but it's rubbish, it doesn't withstand heat good at all. Same goes for Priline PC-CF. Too bad I bought two spools of each.

They Both look nice though but that's about it. :)

I'm pretty sure the orange ASA carriage you printed holds up much better. Polymax PC-FR should be perfect for you.

I had a look at relocating the PCB holder (Qidiot gave me the idea) for Icarus, there definitely is NO space for that in front of the blower fan, not without redoing the whole parts cooling system and relocating the blower fan. It would hit the Orbiter extruder.

Current design stays, I'm very happy with it.

Hercules is larger and the BMG extruder is slimmer in that direction so it would work there but it would be in the way of extruder access, I don't want that and I see no benefit in its relocation anyway.

Both designs are stable and pretty much final, at least for the 1.X series, who knows what the future brings? :) The only changes I have planned at the moment are to the ribbon cable holders. Adding a heated insert for Hercules and possibly straightening them both up now that the Automatic Ribbon Cable Holder is released.

One thing I haven't really spent time on is the parts cooling fan duct for both setups, they're originally remixes and I will redesign them properly from scratch, I think they can definitely be improved.

I think it's a good idea now that we have an automatic ribbon holder on the frame (well, soon). The reason the ribbon holder is tilted on the carriages is to lift the ribbon a little but eventually they still droop down.

I'll see if I can design a concept with the PCB holder moved as well, would benefit airflow on Icarus at least.

    Hello humebeam,

would be interested in the .stl for the ribbon cable. Today I noticed that my cable is slowly dissolving = O. Perhaps your cable routing can help to stop or slow down the process.

Did you get any further with your tests?

If someone has a link for me where I can get a suitable replacement cable, I would put myself on my side.

    thanks :)

Ah yes. There didn't seem to be too much interest for it which I thought was a bit strange. Yes it works great, no more broken cables :)

I'll upload it tomorrow night If people want to try it.

    Re: Mosquito clone.

Good news, it fits. A bit more difficult to get the heater and thermocouple in place but no problems.

Bad news. The fan duct needs to be redesigned a little because it hits the heaterblock which is turned 90 degrees compared to Dragon/V6. No idea why they did that. Original Mosquito will be no problem and will work with the normal fan duct but not this. I think I'll just adjust the fan duct a little.

Slightly off topic but still related to the mod since it improves it. Also works with stock printers and Hercules or the Chad version of course.

QIDI X-Max - Automatic Ribbon Cable Support

I'll test it some more then upload by this weekend.

This was just an idea I had, I was annoyed at the cable dipping down causing stress so I made this a few nights ago, testing it now. Only printed about 10 hours with it installed so far. Works as intended.

As you can tell it automatically retracts.

Icarus 1.1.5 released. It's nothing major.

    Changes:

    • PCB holder strengthened with an additional beam.
    • Minor aesthetical adjustments.

As usual, source files are included and versions for additional bearing sizes (icarus-1.1.5-all-bearing-sizes.rar)

Thanks to Olaf, Qidiot and the guys at elektrifiziert for the feedback.

Also, I've added a new file to print. It's a PTFE cutting jig so you can easily cut the exact length required for the hotend:

    icarus-ptfe-cutting-jig-1.0.stl

My attempt is driven by the issue that he cable tends to slide out of the ribbon.

Now i could clamp it, a way which you choose on Icarus from what i see.

But i don't really like the tension when i plug/unplug the cable on the PCB.

And i also want to try to find out if i can change your Hercules to my opinion.

And if ifail, at least i learned a lot how to desingn with Fusion360 8)

Of course, in fact I encourage it. :)

It's why I include the source step files for most of my designs.

I don't use Icarus so far but Hercules, but i think the disadvance of the twisted cable is similiar.

Currently i try to change the design of the Herc but i think i need anoher week since i'm still a noob regardind CAD

For Hercules it should not be placed there, it would be in the way of BMG extruder access, just take a look at Chad's design, it's not very good in that aspect. That was one of the reasons I developed Hercules in the first place. Not sure I understand what twisted cable means, it's supported by the ribbon holder.

For Icarus the situation is different as the extruder is mounted from above, the PCB holder could be relocated without issues although I don't see why it should.

Yes. Basically like on the original Extruder, but between Extruder and blower fan.

And because you want to lift up the flat cable a bit you may tilt the PCB a few degrees.

Advantage is also that the cable will not be twisted so much.

That was in fact the original placement for the original Icarus design, the PCB behind the blower fan. But I moved it for a reason, can't remember exactly why at the moment. It's fine where it is IMO :)
